LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No.
4446 for its good works on behalf of the City of Rensselaer, New York,
and the surrounding communities

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals and organizations that devote their energy, resources
and thoughtful care to improving the quality and character of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4446 for its good works on behalf of
the City of Rensselaer, New York, and the surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4446 was established in
the City of Rensselaer, New York, on March 9, 2002, with the motto
"People Helping People"; between the men and ladies auxiliaries, it has
handed out significant funds to numerous local charities and organiza-
tions since being formed; and
WHEREAS, An international non-profit organization, the Fraternal Order
of Eagles was began as The Order of Good Things in 1898 by six theatre
owners in Seattle, Washington; and
WHEREAS, As numbers grew, the members selected the Bald Eagle as the
official emblem and changed the name to "The Fraternal Order of Eagles";
the women's auxiliary traces its roots to 1927; and
WHEREAS, Membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles exceeds 1.1
million, with more than 1,700 local aeries (male groups) in the United
States and Canada; women's auxiliaries total more than 1,500, with more
than 335,000 members; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Fraternal Order of Eagles has helped
to found Mother's Day, served as a driving force in founding the Social
Security Program and helped end job discrimination based on age with the
"Jobs After 40" Program; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the year, the Fraternal Order of Eagles conducts
fundraisers for eight major charities, kidney, heart, diabetes, cancer
and spinal cord injury funds, a children's fund, memorial foundation and
the Golden Eagle Fund; and
WHEREAS, Prominent members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles include,
United States Presidents Theodore R. Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding,
Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter
and Ronald Reagan, comedian Bob Hope, boxer Max Baer, Hockey Hall of
Famer Gordie Howe, NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart and Sam Hornish and musi-
cian Billy Ray Cyrus; and
WHEREAS, Notable members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Women's
Auxiliary include, Bess Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Virginia Graham and
Susan Wagner; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to have the opportunity to
applaud the good works and worthy endeavors of Fraternal Order of Eagles
Aerie No. 4446 and its members, and to honor the organization for its
unremitting dedication to service and distinguished record of accom-
plishment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations and
most joyously commend Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4446 for its
good works on behalf of the City of Rensselaer, New York, and the
surrounding communities, fully confident that this generous and devoted

fellowship has earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4446.
