LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Onondaga Community College
Women's Lacrosse Team and Coach Amy Spin upon the occasion of capturing
the 2009 NJCAA National Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this state, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play, teamwork, and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, achiev-
ing outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their colleges; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Onondaga Community College Women's Lacrosse Team and Head Coach Amy Spin
upon the occasion of capturing the 2009 NJCAA National Championship; to
bring home a national title, as did the 2009 OCC Lazers, is a remarkable
achievement; and
WHEREAS, The Lazers defeated Monroe Community College by a score of 9
- 7 to capture the National Championship in the program's first season
of existence; in beating Monroe, the Lazers also avenged their only loss
of the season, in the Region III finals a week earlier; and
WHEREAS, No team, no matter how gifted one or a handful of its members
may be, can succeed without outstanding talent throughout its entire
roster; such was the case for the 2009 OCC Lazers whose players
included: Maggie Doerle, Brittany Baran, Marra Solorzano, Jamie Hand-
ley, Kayla Lombardoni, Chelsey Dean, Emily Pierson, Nicole Mindell,
Gabrielle Dewey, Brittany Furgal, Brittany Clause, Kara Rogers, Amanda
Cizenski, Elizabeth Manipole, Lindsay Malecki, BreAnne Galloway, Nicole
Kelly, Shawna Jamieson, Lauren Welch, Jessica Chalupnicki, Alyssa Tobi-
as, and Kristina Fahsel; and
WHEREAS, Midfielder Elizabeth Manipole was named the offensive MVP of
the tournament, while Brittany Baran received similar honors on the
defensive side; attacker Chelsey Dean, midfielder Jessica Chalupnicki,
midfielder Amanda Cizenski and midfielder Emily Pierson were OCC tourna-
ment all-stars; and
WHEREAS, The success of the OCC Women's Champion Lacrosse team is due
in great part to the efforts of Head Coach Amy Spin and her outstanding
Assistant Coaches who include Donald Patchett, Erin Hopkins and Stepha-
nie Donegan; the team was also assisted by the never-ending encourage-
ment and support of friends, family and the entire OCC College Athletic
Department, as well as the Central New York community; and
WHEREAS, While lacrosse is a team sport, national recognition of some
Lazer team members must be noted: players named to the Region III All-
Region 1st Team include Region III Player of the Year Lauren Welch,
midfielders Emily Pierson, Amanda Cizenski and Elizabeth Manipole;
midfielders Emily Pierson, Amanda Cizenski and Elizabeth Manipole were
also named to the All-Region 1st Team; defenders Jamie Handley and Gabr-
ielle Dewey and forward Lindsay Malecki were named to the All-Region 2nd
Team; and
WHEREAS, The 2009 Lazers shared noteworthy attributes off the field as
well as in competition; individually and collectively, they constantly
exhibited good sportsmanship and scholarship, thereby demonstrating to
themselves and to others that they have an enviable combination of

talent and character which reflects favorably upon their school and
their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Onondaga Community College Women's Lacrosse Team and
Head Coach Amy Spin on their most successful season and the capture of
the 2009 NJCAA National Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the 2009 Onondaga Community College Women's
Lacrosse Team and its coaches.
