LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman upon the
occasion of his retirement ceremony to be held Saturday, August 22, 2009

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the counseling of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the rabinate through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rabbi Morde-
chai Schnaidman upon the occasion of his retirement ceremony to be held
Saturday, August 22, 2009, and to celebrate his many years of service
and leadership to the congregation and to the community at large; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Yeshiva College, Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman
holds a Masters degree from Yeshiva University and Columbia University,
as well as a Ph.D. from Columbia; he was ordained a Rabbi at Rabbi Isaac
Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS); and
WHEREAS, After teaching at Ramaz High School, Rabbi Mordechai Schnaid-
man taught from 1963-1974 at Yeshiva University; it was then that he
joined the Max Stern Division of Communal Services (MSDCS) as Associate
Director of its National Commission on Torah Education; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, a congregation then worshipping in the Audubon Hall
Complex, elected Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman, renowned scholar, teacher
and orator, as their new spiritual leader; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman led his congregation in 1984 to
its new home in Mount Sinai Jewish Center, located at 135 Bennett
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, On April 4, 1986, Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman ascended the
pulpit in the sanctuary of Mount Sinai Jewish Center, and conducted the
first combined religious service of the two congregations; subsequently,
he was chosen as the spiritual leader of this new congregation; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman has brought to his ministry an
overwhelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman upon the occasion of his retirement
ceremony, noting his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exem-
plary service to God, man, and his community, and extending to him
heartfelt best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi Mordechai Schnaidman.
