LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Police Officer Lawrence Gilrain upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the American
Legion-Charles Wagner Post 421

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Police Officer Lawrence Gilrain has given not only of his
time and energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Police Offi-
cer Lawrence Gilrain upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the American Legion-Charles Wagner Post 421 to be cele-
brated at its Annual Awards Night on Thursday, March 31, 2011 in Hicks-
ville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Appointed to the Nassau County Police Department in 1972,
Officer Lawrence Gilrain spent his entire 38-year career assigned to the
Eighth Precinct; and
WHEREAS, Eager to take on any assignment, Officer Lawrence Gilrain has
served many posts within the department including Patrol Officer,
Precinct Clerk, and Precinct Training Officer; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable officer, with his vast knowledge and experi-
ence has been a most valued member of the Nassau County Police Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, During his long and illustrious career, Officer Lawrence
Gilrain has been awarded several commendations and awards for his valu-
able service and lifesaving work; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Officer Lawrence Gilrain honorably served his
country as a United States Army combat Medic from 1969-1971, having
served a tour in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Officer Lawrence Gilrain retired from the Nassau County
Police Department in September of 2010; during his retirement he has
enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Officer Lawrence Gilrain has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Officer Lawrence Gilrain has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Police Officer Lawrence Gilrain upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by the American Legion-Charles Wagner
Post 421; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Officer Lawrence Gilrain.
