LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of The Arc of
Livingston-Wyoming

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality of life in the communities across this great State of New York
is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those indi-
viduals and organizations whose singular purpose is the care and welfare
of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming; and
WHEREAS, The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming is a non-profit human services
agency which provides advocacy and services for individuals with intel-
lectual and other developmental disabilities in Livingston and Wyoming
counties; and
WHEREAS, In 1961, The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming was founded by a group
of concerned parents who envisioned a rich, full life for their children
with special needs; their work resulted in the area's first preschool
class for children with developmental disabilities; subsequently,
further programs were established in order to meet the changing needs of
the children as they grew into adulthood; and
WHEREAS, Today The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming serves 816 individuals
and helps them to achieve their fullest potential in whatever their
dreams or aspirations may be for the future; and
WHEREAS, The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming provides a full spectrum of
educational, vocational, employment, residential, family support, trans-
portation, and clinical coordination services to people with develop-
mental disabilities and their families; and
WHEREAS, Recognized for its programs, innovation and highest level of
dedication, The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming became the first human
services non-profit agency to be honored by the Livingston County Cham-
ber of Commerce in 2010; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable agency is staffed with members who are dedi-
cated to providing the best services possible for all individuals with
disabilities and who treat them with the dignity, respect and acceptance
that is the right of every person; and
WHEREAS, As The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming celebrates its 50th Anniver-
sary, it will continue to carry out its mission to empower people of all
ages to experience the joys and challenges of life with a growing sense
of personal dignity and independence; and
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations which bring greater awareness
to health issues, and assist people with developmental disabilities in
their quest for dignity and independence, are a great benefit to the
health and welfare of all citizens; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and recognize
The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming, which has led the way in providing educa-
tion, habilitation, as well as jobs to individuals with disabilities in
the hopes of integrating them into the community for the past 50 years;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming.
