LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Aviva Franz upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Patriot's Pen Award by the Veterans
of Foreign Wars of the United States William M. Gouse Jr. Post 3211

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary students who have distinguished themselves
through their outstanding commitment, and who have received notable
recognition within their academic community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Aviva Franz upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Patriot's Pen Award by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the
United States William M. Gouse Jr. Post 3211, to be celebrated at its
Annual Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Awards in Hicksville, New
York, on Monday, February 28, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Patriot's Pen gives sixth, seventh and eighth grade students
the opportunity to express their opinion on a patriotic theme and
improve upon their writing skills; and
WHEREAS, Contestant, Aviva Franz, submitted an outstanding original
essay on this year's theme, "Does Patriotism Still Matter," and proudly
claimed first place for Hicksville Middle School's Patriot's Pen Award
Contest; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in patriotic and academic
endeavors, are worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Aviva
Franz now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Aviva Franz upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Patriot's Pen Award by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
United States William M. Gouse Jr. Post 3211; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hicksville Middle School and Aviva Franz.
