LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Clark J. Hackett posthumously upon the
occasion of his induction into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes, coaches and officials who distinguished themselves
through their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success
and the highest level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Clark J. Hackett posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into
the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at the Saugerties
Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on May 14, 2011, at the Glasco Firehouse in
Glasco, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 4, 1955, at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Mary-
land, Clark Hackett was the oldest of three sons and two daughters born
to Jen and Vincent Hackett; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, after his family moved to Saugerties, Clark Hackett
began to play on the Saugerties Little League as a catcher for the Phil-
lies; and
WHEREAS, Clark Hackett moved on to the Saugerties Babe Ruth League,
playing three years for the Masons; in 1970, the winning Masons captured
the Saugerties Babe Ruth League title; and
WHEREAS, Clark Hackett evolved into a stellar performer on the basket-
ball court as well; he began with the St. Mary's CYO basketball teams
run by his father, Vince Hackett; and
WHEREAS, Clark Hackett became a member of the Saugerties High JV
basketball squad in his freshman and sophomore years, then as a member
with the varsity squad as both a junior and senior; and
WHEREAS, In Clark Hackett's sophomore season of 1971-1972, the SHS
basketball squads had an exceptional year as his JV team finished with a
9-9 record; as a varsity team member in 1972-1973, he played with inten-
sity and selflessness; these attributes, which he carried with him
throughout all his athletic endeavors, were at the root of the team's
success; and
WHEREAS, Even as an adult, Clark Hackett became a household name on
the Donlon hardwood, playing for many years in the SAA Premier full
court league for Keeley's Corner and in the SAA Half-Court League for
the Saugerties Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, After graduating high school in 1974, Clark Hackett attended
SUNY Brockport, earning his bachelor's degree in Physical Education in
1979; several years later, he began working at IBM, initially in King-
ston and later Poughkeepsie, where he had a long career starting in
computer operations and then moving into computer programming; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Clark Hackett and his wife Alice (Schell) were
married and shortly after became the proud parents of daughter Alissa;
and
WHEREAS, After establishing his career and family, Clark Hackett's
athletic adventures led him to the fields of adult softball leagues as a
pitcher, outfielder, and an excellent hitter; and
WHEREAS, Clark Hackett played for many successful and highly compet-
itive teams; he initially started with Lezette Express and later with
Weber Construction where he had many notable highlights, including some
memorable home runs; he also pitched for the First National Bank of
Rhinebeck team in the A division; and
WHEREAS, The majority of Clark Hackett's SAA softball career was spent
with the Greco Brothers Amusements team; playing in the upper divisions
of the SAA's A or B divisions, his teams were consistently in contention

for league playoffs and championships, against much heralded rival oppo-
nents; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, Clark Hackett led Greco Brothers Amusements team to
the A-division title, tossing a 4-hitter and a 5-hittter back-to-back,
after many years of finishing as a runner-up; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the SAA, Clark Hackett also played on teams in
the Red Hook Northern Dutchess Softball League, initially with Greco
Brothers and later with other Dutchess County teams; and
WHEREAS, While at IBM, Clark Hackett played in both the IBM recre-
ational basketball and softball leagues; at the same time, he partic-
ipated in the Kingston "Over 30" basketball leagues; his involvement
with IBM and "Over 30" leagues resulted in numerous championships over
the years; and
WHEREAS, After his own softball career had wound down, Clark Hackett
remained involved with the game as a coach in the Town Of Ulster Little
League Girls Softball League coaching his daughter, Alissa's, team from
2002-2005; and
WHEREAS, Clark Hackett was just as avid and passionate in the great
outdoors, as a hunter and fisherman; as a long-time NRA and Vly Sports-
men Club member, he was one of the best hunter/fishermen in the area,
with an uncanny ability to find the best streams and hunting spots and
then putting them to use; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals who were of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to pay tribute to Clark J.
Hackett, remembering his extraordinary accomplishments in the athletic
arena which were a direct result of his skill, dedication and commit-
ment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Clark H. Hackett posthumously upon the occasion of his induction
into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Clark J. Hackett.
