LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of a 2011 Circle of Humanity
Award by Temple Israel of Albany on May 5, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rona and
Louis-Jack Pozner upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of a 2011 Circle of Humanity Award by Temple Israel of Albany to be
celebrated at its annual Awards Dinner at Temple Israel in Albany, New
York, on Thursday, May 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is presented to individuals and insti-
tutions who reach out to others and who devote themselves to making a
positive difference in their community and beyond; Rona and Louis-Jack
Pozner epitomize this definition; and
WHEREAS, Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner moved to Albany in 1971, and have
been a part of Temple Israel and the Capital District Jewish community
ever since; and
WHEREAS, Rona has worked side by side with Louis-Jack in his law prac-
tice since day care became available at Temple Israel over 30 years ago;
and
WHEREAS, Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner have been called upon to contrib-
ute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors
and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, The Pozners have served on the Boards of many of the major
Jewish agencies in their community, including Temple Israel, Bet Shraga
Hebrew Academy, the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York, Daugh-
ters of Sarah Jewish Foundation, and the Vaad Hakashrut; and
WHEREAS, Louis-Jack is a Past President of Temple Israel, Bet Shraga
and Daughters of Sarah Jewish Foundation; he currently serves as a Vice
President of the Jewish Federation and Treasurer of the Vaad; Rona is a
Past Treasurer and President of Temple Israel's sisterhood and Past
Treasurer of Bet Shraga and currently serves as President of the Jewish
Federation; in addition, she is a life member of Hadassah and an endowed
Lion of Judah of the Jewish Federations of North America; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable couple serve as members of the Bet Shraga
Hebrew Academy's Shomray Torah Society, and the Federation's Foundation
for the Future; their legacy gift to Federation will perpetuate their
annual gifts to Federation and increase the endowment of the Bet Shraga
Hebrew Academy; and
WHEREAS, Louis-Jack Pozner was the proud recipient of the Samuel
Aronowitz Young Leadership Award from the Albany Federation in 1981, and
the Sidney Albert Community Service Award from the United Jewish Feder-
ation in 2004; in 2007, Rona and Louis-Jack were honored by Bet Shraga
with the Heritage & Destiny Award; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their three wonderful chil-
dren, Samantha and her husband Andrew Hickman, Jo-Ellen and her husband
Benjamin Zeitlin, and Zachary and his wife Dera-Jill, and their loving
grandchildren, Tabatha and Miller Hickman, and Simon Zeitlin, all of

whom feel privileged to be part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of a 2011 Circle of Humanity Award by Temple Israel of
Albany on May 5, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rona and Louis-Jack Pozner.
