LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Owen Scott upon the occasion of
capturing the 2011 New York State Division II wrestling championship in
the 160 pound division

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Owen Scott upon the occasion of capturing the 2011 New York
State Division II wrestling championship in the 160 pound division; and
WHEREAS, On February 26, 2011, Owen Scott triumphed in the 2011 New
York State Division II wrestling championships in the 160 pound weight
class at the tournament held at the Times Union Center in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Top-seeded Owen Scott of the Pal-Mac Red Raiders wrestling
team defeated Warsaw's Burke Paddock by a score of 3-1 to earn his
second consecutive New York State wrestling title; and
WHEREAS, Owen Scott scored two technical falls and a major decision on
his way to victory in the championship match; in the preliminary round,
he advanced with a 17-1 technical fall over Beekmantown's Ethan Kerr; he
then recorded his second win by defeating Nanuet's Rich Berkery by an
18-1 technical fall; in the semi-final round, he won a 9-1 major deci-
sion against Copenhagen's Phillip Clarke to reach the finals; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Owen Scott's dedication to wrestling is
a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and has devel-
oped a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Owen Scott's exemplary performance is reflective of his dedi-
cation, determination and personal commitment; his achievements stand as
a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and communities
across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Owen Scott upon the occasion of capturing the 2011 New York
State Division II wrestling championship in the 160 pound division, and
to commend him for the enduring honor he has brought to his family, his
school and his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Owen Scott.
