LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Free and Accepted Masons of the
State of New York upon the occasion of honoring the memory of M. W.
Brother Daniel D. Tompkins at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the
Daniel D. Tompkins Memorial Chapel

WHEREAS, The Free and Accepted Masons are the oldest fraternal organiza-
tion in the world dating back 3,000 years; Freemasonry in New York State
has been successful for over 200 years because throughout its distin-
guished history it has continuously been a great influence in the commu-
nity by providing leadership, a principled way of life deeply rooted in
a system of values, social benevolence, emphasis on individual excel-
lence and serving as a stabilizing force in the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those renowned organizations that devote their energy, resources and
thoughtful care to improving the quality and character of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York upon the occasion
of honoring the memory of M. W. Brother Daniel D. Tompkins at the 100th
Anniversary Celebration of the Daniel D. Tompkins Memorial Chapel to be
observed on the grounds of the Masonic Care Community in Utica, New
York, on Saturday, June, 25, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Most Worshipful Daniel D. Tompkins was elected Governor of
New York in 1807, leading the Empire State through the War of 1812; he
later served two terms as Vice President of the United States of America
under President James Monroe, another distinguished member of the Mason-
ic Fraternity; and
WHEREAS, The Centennial Anniversary of the Daniel D. Tompkins Memorial
Chapel will serve to honor the memory of this great New Yorker and
former Grand Master of this Fraternity, as well as saluting the genuine
efforts of New York State Masons in providing a facility like the Mason-
ic Care Community; and
WHEREAS, Daniel D. Tompkins Memorial Chapel was built in 1911, in
memory of the Grand Master of Masons in 1820; its Cornerstone was laid
by the Most Worshipful Samuel Nelson Sawyer, Grand Master; and
WHEREAS, The Masonic Care Community has stood as a commitment to good
works by the Freemasons of New York State since its founding in 1893; it
presently houses approximately 500 people from all walks of life, both
Masonic and Non-Masonic, providing independent living apartments, resi-
dential adult care and skilled nursing services; and
WHEREAS, The Masonic Fraternity proudly employs more than 800 workers
and staff members from the central New York region, inclusive of the
Counties of Oneida, Herkimer and Otsego; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the cutting edge services provided to better
assist all of the local residents, the Masonic Care Community has
substantially increased the number of its workforce, employing hundreds
of local construction and blue collar workers, which benefit its local
economy; and
WHEREAS, The Masonic Care Community plays host to a variety of commu-
nity and local neighborhood events, including the Boilermaker Health and
Fitness Expo, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, and the
Wonderland of Lights Program to benefit the Resource Center for Inde-
pendent Living; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, the Free and
Accepted Masons of the State of New York has demonstrated the value of
fostering camaraderie in a shared vision of community service; this

mission is indicative of a noble organization which epitomizes the heart
and soul of what it means to be an American; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York upon the
occasion of honoring the memory of M. W. Brother Daniel D. Tompkins at
the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Daniel D. Tompkins Memorial
Chapel; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Vincent Libone, Grand Master, the Free and Accepted Masons of
the State of New York.
