LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 15th Anniversary of Joloff
Restaurant to be celebrated on Friday, July 23, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the mile-
stones of those illustrious culinary establishments which have positive-
ly impacted and substantially contributed to the vitality of their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 15th Anniversary of Joloff Restaurant, to be celebrated on
Friday, July 23, 2010, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joloff is a West African restaurant specializing in Sene-
galese cuisine; its most popular dish is the Senegalese national dish
called Tiebou Jeun (baked fish, joloff rice and veggies); and
WHEREAS, Another one of Joloff's specialties is its homemade juices
which are all freshly made; the restaurant is one of the few West Afri-
can restaurants serving primarily vegetarian food; in addition, they
serve vegan food; and
WHEREAS, Originally, the recipes were developed in order to feed owner
Papa Diagne's Rastafarian friends, who were vegetarians, and he later
realized that there was an even greater need for vegetarian food in
Brooklyn; since 1995, Joloff Restaurant has been visited regularly not
only by the local community, but also by a number of celebrities; and
WHEREAS, Some of those celebrities who have been regulars at Joloff
include: Sizzla, AKON, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, M1, Kevin
Powel and Isac Debancole; the restaurant was featured in the DAILY NEWS,
THE NEW YORK TIMES, the NEW YORK AMSTERDAM NEWS, in Eat and OCSNews; and
WHEREAS, Papa Diagne feels that his restaurant helps many different
people discover not just the food but also the Senegalese way of living,
along with the culture; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional restaurant, fully confident that
it will continue to enjoy the sparkling success it has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary of Joloff Restaurant; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Papa Diagne, Owner, Joloff Restaurant.
