LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ellenville High School student-
athlete John Paulsen upon the occasion of being named the DAILY FREEMAN
Boys Basketball Player of the Year

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who have
inspired and brought pride to their school and community by achieving
outstanding success in athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late John Paulsen upon the occasion of being named the DAILY FREEMAN
Boys Basketball Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, In the final game of his senior year, John Paulsen eclipsed
1,000 career points. with a 25-point effort against John S. Burke
Catholic High School; this outstanding accomplishment put him at 1,006
points; and
WHEREAS, Ellenville posted their best record in 17 years, finishing
16-5 after a 5-11 campaign the previous season; by qualifying for the
Section 9 and Class B playoffs, Ellenville played three extra games
which helped to put John Paulsen over the top; and
WHEREAS, A complete and unselfish player, John Paulsen, a shooting
guard, averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.8 steals;
and
WHEREAS, Loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large, John Paulsen has proven himself to
be an unbeatable combination of athletic and academic talents and stands
as a sterling example and inspiration to all who would aspire to
success; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and John Paulsen has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition at Ellenville High School;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ellenville High School student-athlete John Paulsen upon
the occasion of being named the DAILY FREEMAN Boys Basketball Player of
the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Paulsen.
