LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Miano family upon the occasion
of the dedication of a New York City Street in honor of their loved one,
Mr. Rocco "Rocky" Miano

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the Miano
family upon the dedication of Hone Avenue and Morris Park Avenue to the
life and legacy of their beloved family member Rocco Miano; and
WHEREAS, As one of 10 children, Rocco Miano was born on February 15,
1931, in Bronx County, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Miano was married to Catherine Boscarelli in 1957;
together they were blessed with two children, Vickie Ann and Rocco; and
six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Miano was blessed with a large and loving family who he
deeply cherished, all of whom were proud to be part of his life and
still today, rejoice in his many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Miano became a staple in the Morris Park community for
several decades, dedicating his time to being an active member of the
Morris Park Community Association and coordinating their civilian
patron; he served in the Morris Park Community Association for 33 years,
becoming First Vice President in addition to being actively involved in
the 49th Precinct Community Council, Bronx Community Board No. 11, and
the Morris Park Merchant Alliance; and
WHEREAS, He also served as Grand Marshal of the Columbus Day Parade
for several years; he was known to lend a hand to a member of the commu-
nity facing difficult times, especially by assisting those in obtaining
housing and employment opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Miano was also an usher at St. Clare of Assisi's Church
for over 35 years, where he was also actively involved in the affairs of
the parish; for several years he was President of the St. Clare's
Father's Club where he worked tirelessly to organize events for the
children and to fund needed improvements in St. Clare's Parish, includ-
ing the funding needed to build the first library in the school communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, After the events of September 11th, Rocco Miano was known to
volunteer his skills cooking food at the Orchard Beach car show, where
all of the proceeds went to the victim's families; and
WHEREAS, In addition to raising two wonderful children, Rocco Miano
worked much of his adult life mastering a broad set of skills in the
construction industry; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Miano enriched the lives of those around him through
his dedication to improving the lives of others and bettering the commu-
nity where he and Catherine settled and she continues to reside after
his passing two years ago; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have achieved a great amount within their lifetime and
have served as exceptional examples of what is possible through communi-
ty service and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations,
cultural developments and awesome achievements of this country through
their lifetime, while themselves contributing to the growth and excel-
lence of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Miano family upon the occasion of the dedication of a
New York City Street in honor of their loved one, Mr. Rocco "Rocky"
Miano; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Catherine Miano, Bronx, New York.
