LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anthony Ortolano upon the occasion of
being inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame on July 31, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary athletes, coaches, and administrators who
have distinguished themselves and their schools through outstanding
commitment, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of
personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anthony Ortolano upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame to be celebrated at its 35th Annual Induction and
Awards Dinner at the Beeches, on Sunday, July 31, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rome, New York, Anthony Ortolano is
regarded as one of the country's leading athletic trainers; currently a
resident of Nassau, he serves as the head athletic trainer at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, a position in which he has remained since
1985; and
WHEREAS, A 1972 Rome Free Academy graduate, Anthony played lacrosse,
football, basketball, swam, and ran cross country; he went on to attend
Norwich University, where he accepted an internship in athletic train-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Ortolano's most skilled sport at Norwich University
was lacrosse; he was Captain of the squad for two years as well as an
all-star player; today, he continues to be active in the sport on the
grand masters level; and
WHEREAS, After leaving Norwich University, Anthony Ortolano earned his
masters in athletic training from Central Connecticut; he went on to
serve as an athletic trainer at Union College as well as SUNY Platts-
burgh, before moving on to RPI; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Anthony Ortolano has won multiple medals and
awards, some of which include at the International Lacrosse Federation
World Championships, the U.S. Kayak-Canoe Championships, the Empire
State Games, and as a member of the U.S. Bobsled Federation; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Ortolano is a recipient of the esteemed Thomas Shee-
han Award, given to the person who has done the most for the advancement
of athletic training in the state, and has been inducted into the
Adirondack Chapter of the United States Lacrosse Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anthony Ortolano upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anthony Ortolano.
