LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Wayne Chambers upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Caribbean Cultural Theatre

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made contributions to the
cultural enrichment of the State of New York and to the success and
progress of society in the course of their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Wayne Chambers upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by the Caribbean Cultural Theatre on Sunday, June 12, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Chambers is being honored for his support of Caribbean
Cultural Theatre and its current project "Poets & Passion V - Cele-
bration of the Word"; and
WHEREAS, The Caribbean Cultural Theatre is a Brooklyn, New York, based
performing arts ensemble dedicated to presenting a balanced rendering of
Caribbean culture and the Caribbean-American experience; and
WHEREAS, The Poets & Passion series was created as an outlet for
talented Caribbean and Caribbean-American writers and spoken word
artists to engage New York area audiences; it has also afforded those
audiences, irrespective of background, opportunities to explore the
bitter-sweet narratives of the immigrant experience in inviting ways
through the simple act of telling a good story; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Chambers, also known as "jaBEZ" is a performance poet,
lyricist and graphic artist; he is a graduate of the Edna Manley College
of the Visual and Performing Arts and former coordinator for the Poetry
Society of Jamaica; and
WHEREAS, An artful practitioner of Dub Poetry, Wayne Chambers's work
is an exotic fusion of Jamaican musical forms of reggae, ska, and folk
with jazz and r & b wrapped around verses of social consciousness and
personal struggle; his reflective rhymes and frenzied performance style
have been featured at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Nuyoricans Poets
Cafe in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Chambers has also served as the opening act for such
international renowned artists as Jamaican dub poet Oku Onoura, British
Grammy Award nominee Linton Kwesi Johnson, and late South African reggae
sensation Lucky Dube; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Chambers currently works for Brooklyn Law School super-
vising the Events Office; he is a true asset to society; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Wayne Chambers's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Wayne Chambers upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Caribbean Cultural Theatre; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Wayne Chambers.
