LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Claudio Hamilton, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Claudio "Claudie" Hamilton, died on Saturday, June 4, 2011,
at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton was born one of six children in Guantanamo,
Cuba, on September 1, 1925; at an early age he left Cuba and was raised
in Runaway Bay, Jamaica; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton spent much of his young adult life working
on the United States Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, where he met Agnes
Smith, who he married in Jamaica in December of 1965; and
WHEREAS, In the Spring of 1966, the Hamiltons migrated to New York
where they settled and became hard working citizens of the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton worked as a machine operator at Smith Loyal
for over 25 years; the couple later welcomed two beautiful children
Barbara and Christopher; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton was an active church member of St. Marks in
Brooklyn and thereafter at Hope Cathedral in Jackson, New Jersey; he had
an entrepreneurial passion that he passed on to his children and grand-
children; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton had a contagious jovial spirit, and always
had a great story to share about Cuba; he touched the lives of many
people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense
of humor up until his death; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton left behind a tradition built on integrity,
loyalty and love; his memory will be carried forward and his legacy will
be cherished by all; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Claudio Hamilton's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Agnes, Claudio Hamilton is survived
by his children, Christopher and Barbara, son-in-law, Nigel, daughter-
in-law, Yomi, and grandchildren Brandon, Gabriel, Kyan, Elicia, and
Eliana, as well as his cousins, nephews, nieces and other family and
friends throughout the United States, Cuba, and Jamaica; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Claudio Hamilton leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Claudio Hamilton, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Claudio Hamilton.
