LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph A. Floreano for his many years of
distinguished service and contributions to the Rochester community

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Floreano, CFE, Executive Director of the Rochester
Riverside Convention Center, has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to join the Italian
American Community Center of Rochester in honoring Joseph A. Floreano
for his many years of distinguished service and contributions to the
Rochester community to be celebrated at the Center's Christmas Gala on
Saturday, December 3, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Floreano came to Rochester 28 years ago from Rapid
City, South Dakota to oversee the construction and opening of the River-
side Convention Center; since then, he has remained an active part of
the Rochester community; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Floreano serves on the boards of the Rochester
Downtown Development Corporation and its Executive Committee, and the
Rochester Broadway Theatre League; he is also the Vice President of the
Italian Heritage Foundation, President of the Rochester Chapter of the
New York State Restaurant Association, serves on the Foundation of the
International Venue Management Association, and was President of the
Rochester Rotary in 2009; and
WHEREAS, As a 35-year member of the International Association of Venue
Managers, Joseph A. Floreano received his certificate as a facility
executive in 1989 and remains the only one in New York State; further-
more, he completed his term as President of this 3800 worldwide member
organization in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Floreano has served as the honorary chair of
Rochester Institute of Technology's special event, "Putting on the Ritz"
dinner; he was also given an Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Ameri-
can Culinary Federation Professional Cooks and Chefs Association for his
contributions to the hospitality industry; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Joseph A. Floreano was inducted into the prestigious
CONFREIRE de la CHAINE des ROTISSEURS and bestowed the title of Maitre
de Table Hotelier, and in 2004 he was honored by the Italian Women's
Civic Club as its Outstanding Citizen of the Year; he was also bestowed
the honor of September 25th being proclaimed "Joe Floreano Day" in the
City of Rochester by Mayor William Johnson and County Executive Maggie
Brooks; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, on September 17, 2006, he was bestowed the Chair-
man's Cup by the Chef's Association for all his achievements of excel-
lence and industry partnerships with area chefs, and given the title of
Mr. Hospitality; and
WHEREAS, That same year, he was presented with the Civic Tourism Award
at the 85th meeting of the Greater Rochester Visitors Association, and
two years later, he received the Charles A. McElravy Award from his
Professional International Association, their highest award bestowed
upon an individual; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joseph A. Floreano has stood
constant in dignity, good grace mild humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Carol, and their two
children, as well as their six grandchildren, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph A. Floreano for his many years of distinguished service and
contributions to the Rochester community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph A. Floreano, Greece, New York.
