LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Mickey Scott, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Scott of Binghamton, New York, died on Sunday, October
30, 2011, at the age of 64; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 25, 1947, in Weimar, Germany, Mickey Scott moved
to the United States at the age of eight months; he was raised in
Newburgh, New York, and attended Newburgh Free Academy, where he was a
standout athlete; and
WHEREAS, His baseball prowess caught the attention of major league
scouts and he was drafted by the New York Yankees right out of high
school in 1965; Mickey Scott played for the Binghamton Triplets and the
Yankees AA Team; and
WHEREAS, It was there that he met and married his future wife and
decided to call Binghamton home; his minor league career included
several successful years with the Orioles AAA team and the Rochester Red
Wings; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Scott was inducted into the Red Wings Baseball Hall of
Fame in 1998, and was recognized as one of the most successful relief
pitchers in Red Wing history; his major league career included stints
with the Baltimore Orioles, Montreal Expos and California Angels; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Scott was a unique and wonderful person and was always
true to himself; you could count on him to add humor and levity to any
situation with his hilarious sayings and limericks and his overall
fantastic sense of humor; he loved his family, friends, golf, and most
of all, life; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Scott is survived by his son, Kevin and his wife, May;
his mother Irmy Scott; his sisters, June Valentino and Michele Auferio;
and his brother, Peter and his wife, Leslie; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Mickey Scott leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mickey Scott, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Mickey Scott.
