LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James L. Terry upon the occasion of his
promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their commitment
to the preservation of American freedom; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James L. Terry upon the occasion of his promotion to the rank of Lieu-
tenant General; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his promotion, Lieutenant General James L.
Terry was also nominated to take command of V Corps, United States Army
Europe and Seventh Army; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant General James L. Terry, who commanded the 10th
Mountain Division since 2009, was most recently deployed to Kandahar,
Afghanistan as commander of NATO's Regional Command South; and
WHEREAS, In the mid-1990s, Lieutenant General James L. Terry served in
the division as Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment
and deployed to Haiti during Operation Restore Democracy; he also became
Assistant Division Commander for Operations for the division in 2004,
and deployed with the unit to Afghanistan in 2006, as the Deputy
Commanding General of Operations; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Lieutenant General James L. Terry has served as
a Brigade Commander with the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks,
Hawaii, and was deployed to Kuwait, Kosovo, and Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant General James L. Terry will begin his new assign-
ment overseeing troops in Heidelberg, Germany for six or seven months
before heading back to Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, After spending seven years of his life at Fort Drum, Lieuten-
ant General James L. Terry mentioned that he was particularly proud of
the efforts made under his watch to support resiliency programs for
soldiers and family members and hopes he will be remembered at Fort Drum
for a legacy of openness with the local media and civilian community;
and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so faithfully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during
peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James L. Terry upon the occasion of his promotion to the rank of
Lieutenant General; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant General James L. Terry.
