LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chanatry's Market of Utica, New York
upon the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the mile-
stones of those individuals and businesses which substantially contrib-
ute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Chanatry's Market of Utica, New York upon the occasion of celebrating
its 100th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, A family owned business built on the principles of personal
service and uncompromised quality, Chanatry's Market was established in
1912, by Raymond Chanatry shortly after he emigrated to the United
States from Aleppo, Syria; and
WHEREAS, Upon their arrival to the United States, Raymond's brothers,
Michael and Rocky Chanatry both joined in the store operations; and
WHEREAS, Chanatry's Market was originally located at 551 Bleecker
Street in Utica, and moved down the road to 519 Bleecker Street to
accommodate the rapidly growing business; and
WHEREAS, In 1938, the Chanatry brothers expanded their store into a
6,000 square-foot supermarket, one of the first in the country; and
WHEREAS, Over the century, members of the Chanatry family opened vari-
ous stores throughout Utica; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Chanatry's Market on French Road, run by the
descendants of Michael Chanatry, stands as the sole location of this
historic, family owned business; and
WHEREAS, Today, Chanatry's Market proudly carries out its commitment
of personal service and exceptional quality and eagerly looks forward to
serving the community of Utica, New York for another century to come;
and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional business and recognizes its
contribution to the local and State economies, fully confident that it
will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chanatry's Market of Utica, New York upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 100th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chanatry's Market, Utica, New York.
