LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Chatterton School's Parent Teacher
Association upon the occasion of its Founder's Day Celebration on Febru-
ary 6, 2012 and applauding the honorees of the day

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of commitment and high achievement whose purpose
and endeavor have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the
education of the children of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The Chatterton School in Merrick, New York, an outstanding
elementary school in the Merrick Union Free School District, is an
institution of enduring commitment and exemplary tradition in educating
the children of the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Chatter-
ton School's Parent Teacher Association upon the occasion of its Found-
er's Day Celebration, this year celebrating its 115th Birthday, to be
held at the school on February 6, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Founder's Day celebrates the birth of the Parent Teacher
Association, whose motto is "every child, one voice"; on this annual
special occasion, the Chatterton PTA honors parents, teachers, staff,
and community members who have made a significant contribution and have
continued to help Chatterton School's children in outstanding ways and
proudly recognizes these special people at its annual February event;
and
WHEREAS, The Chatterton School is fortunate to have the benefit of an
involved and supportive Parent Teacher Association which works dili-
gently to enhance and enrich programs at the school in order to
strengthen the school's commitment to providing a broad and well-ba-
lanced education for all its students; and
WHEREAS, At its 2012 Founders Day Celebration, the Chatterton Parent
Teacher Association will proudly celebrate the contributions of those
who have worked closely with the school and those whose extraordinary
support has helped make the vision of a variety of vigorous programs at
the school a reality; and
WHEREAS, Among those to be recognized on February 6, 2012 are Jose-
phine Backus, Teacher Assistant; Dr. David Curtis, School Psychologist;
Heather Fisher, Outgoing PTA President; Loni Stein, Co-Director of Chat-
terton On-Stage; Gina Stephens, 1st Grade Teacher; Ellen Widawsky,
Librarian; and Shannon Wisniewski, 6th Grade Parent; and
WHEREAS, The schools of a community reflect the character and values
of that community; the spirit, commitment and diligence of the Chatter-
ton School's Parent Teacher Association clearly demonstrate the school's
pride in its history of providing a quality education to the children of
the community and the exceptional community support the school is grate-
ful to have; and
WHEREAS, With the assistance of its Parent Teacher Association, the
Chatterton School stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusi-
astic quest of its mission, to promote the maximum growth of every
student, establishing standards and building skills which will carry its
students and the citizens of its community into the future; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Chatterton School Parent Teacher Association upon the occa-
sion of its Founder's Day Celebration on February 6, 2012, and to recog-
nize, with appreciation, the honorees of the day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Chatterton School Parent Teacher Association and to Jose-

phine Backus, Dr. David Curtis, Heather Fisher, Loni Stein, Gina Steph-
ens, Ellen Widawsky, and Shannon Wisniewski, the honorees of the day.
