LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. of Lake Placid, New York, died on
Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The son of Joseph Vernon and Elsie (Tracy) Lamb, Joseph
Vernon Lamb Jr. was a 1942 graduate of Lake Placid High School; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and
Bachelor of Science degree from Dartmouth College; he was also a gradu-
ate of Syracuse University where he earned his Master's in Forestry; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. honorably served his country during
World War II as a member of the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, On January 19, 1952, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. married G.
Winifred (Everest-Ryan), at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. was former owner and president of Lamb
Lumber Company in Lake Placid, from which he retired in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. distinguished himself in his profes-
sion and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; his commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, The first Lake Placid Native to become an Adirondack 46er
364, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. was a Member of the Lake Placid Hall of
Fame, United States Ski Hall of Fame, and former member of the Lake
Placid Olympic Organizing Committee; and
WHEREAS, He also served as Past District Governor of the Lions Club,
Past President of the Lake Placid Ski Club, Past President of the Lake
Placid Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Lake Placid Historical
Society, former FIS Ski Jump Official, former ORDA Board Member and a
former member of the Lake Placid Sports Council; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. is survived by his wife, Winifred; one
daughter, Carol Ann Lamb and her companion, John Brown; three sons,
Joseph (Kathryn) Vernon Lamb III, Tracy (Alicia) Lamb and, Thomas V.
Lamb; one brother, Nash (Dana) Lamb; and two sisters, Claire Carey and
Eleanor (Ted) Wild; he is also survived by nine grandchildren, Erin
Horton, Emelie Lamb, Brian Lamb, Erik Lamb, Tynan McKillip, Kaleigh
Lamb, Colden Lamb, Jackson Hunt-Lamb, India Hunt-Lamb and seven great-
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph Vernon Lamb Jr.
