LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sergeant Edward DiCaprio upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of a 2012 Officer of the Year Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sergeant
Edward DiCaprio upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
2012 Officer of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, The Exchange Club of Yonkers' Annual Crime Prevention Program
will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at Luciano's Restaurant, in
Yonkers, New York; this fine event recognizes the exceptional efforts,
dedication and devotion of extraordinary members of the Yonkers Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Yonkers, Sergeant DiCaprio is the son of
Barbara and the late Gino DiCaprio; he was appointed to the Yonkers
Police Department on July 6, 1990, and promoted to Sergeant on February
15, 2008; he was assigned to the 1st Precinct where he currently serves;
and
WHEREAS, A resident of Mahopac, New York, Sergeant DiCaprio has been
responsible for patrol and the supervision of a squad of police offi-
cers; in addition, he is a recipient of five commendations for Excellent
Police Work and Bravery, five certificates for Excellent Police Work,
three Police Officer of the Year Awards, and one Police Columbian Asso-
ciation Award; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant DiCaprio has been supportive of numerous programs of
the Yonkers Police Athletic League and is a member of the Police Colum-
bian Association; his ability to get the job done through cooperation
and mutual respect with his subordinates is what makes him one of the
most respected supervisors on the Yonkers Police Department; and
WHEREAS, One of the qualities that make Sergeant DiCaprio stand out as
a supervisor is his constant effort to make the Yonkers Police Depart-
ment better in whatever way possible; he accomplishes this by instilling
a sense of cooperation in his subordinates; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his children Vincent, Gino and
Felicia, his mother, Barbara, and his siblings, Michael, Joseph, Eugene
and Carol, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sergeant Edward DiCaprio upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a 2012 Officer of the Year Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sergeant Edward DiCaprio.
