LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gary Sekdorian upon the occasion of his
designation as Knight of the Year by the Knights and Daughters of Vartan
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gary Sekdorian
upon the occasion of his designation as Knight of the Year by the
Knights and Daughters of Vartan, to be celebrated on Sunday, March 4,
2012; and
WHEREAS, In addition, on Sunday, April 15, 2012, Gary Sekdorian will
be recognized by the Armenian Church of the Holy Martyrs; and
WHEREAS, Gary Sekdorian received his higher education from Yerevan
Polytechnical University in Armenia, and upon migrating to the United
States, he continued his studies at New York University earning a Bach-
elor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering; he continued his
education and pursued an MBA at Adelphi University, where he was placed
on the dean's list; and
WHEREAS, An engineer by profession, Gary Sekdorian worked as Lead
Engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation; his major projects were for
the United States Air Force and United States Navy aerospace and satel-
lite projects; and
WHEREAS, Gary Sekdorian later worked as an engineering consultant for
New York State Metropolitan Transit Authority; his major projects there
were the 2nd Avenue Subway Line and the LIRR Expansion projects; and
WHEREAS, A church member for over 37 years, Gary Sekdorian is the
recipient of the St. Nersess Shnorhali Medal and Pontifical Encyclical
(Gondak), and most recently, he had the honor to be recognized by the
Church Recognition Committee; he is currently a Diocesan Delegate,
Parish Council member, and Fundraising Chairman; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Bertha, their chil-
dren, Linda and Rita, as well as their grandchildren, Jessica, Valerie
and Peter Garo, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gary Sekdorian upon the occasion of his designation as Knight of
the Year by the Knights and Daughters of Vartan; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gary Sekdorian.
