LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of James W. Doran, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, James W. Doran of Canandaigua, New York, died on Friday,
January 20, 2012, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, A native of Canandaigua, New York, James W. Doran was a grad-
uate of St. Mary's School, Class of 1952, and Canandaigua Academy, Class
of 1956; and
WHEREAS, Retired from the Chase Bank in Canandaigua, New York, after
more than 30 years of distinguished service, James W. Doran was a member
of St. Mary's Church, Finger Lakes Community College Advisory Board for
Business and Industry, Rochester Philharmonic Advisory Board, Finger
Lakes Development Center for Business, Ontario County Revolving Loan
Committee and the Ontario County Industrial Development Board; and
WHEREAS, In addition, James W. Doran was a member of the Boy Scouts of
America, Finger Lakes Council, and was their 2006 Distinguished Citizen
of the Year; he was also a member of the Granger Homestead Society,
Ontario County Historical Society and the Canandaigua Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, A Board Member and Vice President of the 40 Wilcox Lane
Senior Housing Development Corporation and former President, Treasurer
and fund raiser for United Way of Ontario County, James W. Doran was
also a member of the Merrill Hose Volunteer Fire Company, and a former
Board Member and Vice President of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce
and Canandaigua Area Development Corporation; and
WHEREAS, James W. Doran joined the FF Thompson Hospital Board of
Directors in 1971 and had a 35-year relationship with Thompson Health;
he served as its Chairman from 1987 to 1991; in 1992, he became Presi-
dent of FF Thompson Properties and served in that capacity for over 10
years; and
WHEREAS, Named "Mr. Canandaigua" in 1991 by the Chamber of Commerce,
James W. Doran was selected a Canandaigua Academy "Graduate of
Distinction" in 2008; and
WHEREAS, James W. Doran enjoyed golfing, and spending time with his
family, grandchildren and friends; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his sister, Bonnie Mahoney, and three broth-
ers, John, Tom and Mike, James W. Doran is survived by his wife of 48
years, Patricia; two sons, The Honorable Craig (Eileen) Doran and Chris-
topher (Pamela) Doran; five grandchildren, Meghan, Erin, James, Jack and
Connor; five sisters, Sr. Mary Doran, S.S.J., Eileen (Howard "Bud")
Ross, Kathleen O'Neil, Jean Coyne, and Shelia Berrettone; three broth-
ers, Paul (Margie) Doran, Charles (Anne) Doran, and Casey (Anne) Doran;
and many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, James W. Doran leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; he will
be remembered as someone who made a positive difference in the life of
others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of James W. Doran, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of James W. Doran.
