LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Thomas Flood upon the occasion of his
designation as an Honorary Grand Marshal of the 37th Annual Queens Coun-
ty St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 3, 2012
WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Thomas Flood
upon the occasion of being named an Honorary Grand Marshal of the 37th
Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be held on Saturday,
March 3, 2012; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the 37th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day
Parade will honor Kevin O'Brien as Grand Marshal of the parade and
Edward Rice and Paddy McCarthy as Gaels of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Also being honored as Deputy Grand Marshals at this year's
Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade are Maureen Donachie, Mary Ellen
Murray, Maurice Landers, Ralph Reed, Richard Keane, Mark C. Edwards,
Laura Sporny, Sister Agnes White, C.S.J., Eileen McDonald, and Michael
Charles Schramm, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, All of this year's honorees are fittingly being recognized
for their service in their individual fields to the Irish and Irish-Am-
ericans throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Fitzpatrick Flood is the Vice President for Develop-
ment at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, New York; he previously
served the Diocese of Brooklyn for ten years as the Executive Director
of the Office of Stewardship and Development and then as the Executive
Director of the Alive in Hope Foundation, the Catholic Community Founda-
tion of the Diocese; during his tenure with St. Francis College, he also
served as President of the Futures in Education Foundation and today
continues to serve on its Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Flood graduated from Boston College in 1989; for elev-
en years, he was the Annual Fund Director at Regis High School, New
York, of which he is also an alumnus; and
WHEREAS, He currently serves on the Finance Council of Holy Child
Jesus Parish, Richmond Hill and on the School Boards for St. Joan of Arc
Catholic School in Jackson Heights and Cristo Rey High School in Brook-
lyn; and
WHEREAS, In January, Archbishop Robert Carlson invited Thomas Flood to
offer his talents to the Archdiocese of St. Louis' new Catholic School
Mission Advancement initiative; he serves on the advisory team with
others drawn from the Archdiocese of St. Louis and around the country;
and
WHEREAS, He served two terms on the Board of the International Cathol-
ic Stewardship Council where he served as Chair of the Development
Committee; he is actively involved in other organizations including the
Knights of Columbus, the Great Irish Fair of New York, the Kathie and
Christopher Lawler Foundation, the Catholic Youth Organization, and the
Franklin Square Raiders Soccer Program; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Flood also supervises adult and youth basketball
programs and is the Co-Coordinator of the Make a Difference Christmas
effort and of the Greg Trost 9/11 Memorial Golf Outing; and
WHEREAS, With Thomas Flood throughout have been his wife Eileen and
their children, Ryan, Erin and Luke, all of whom are proud to be part of
his life and rejoice in his many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Flood truly embodies the spirit and the cherished
ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and nation; it
is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such
noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should
be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of
New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Thomas Flood upon the occasion of his designation as an Honorary
Grand Marshal of the 37th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade,
to be held on March 3, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas Fitzpatrick Flood.
