LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rose Moreno upon the occasion of
her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, A leap year baby, Rose Moreno was born in Troy, New York's
Little Italy on February 29, 1912 and turned 100 on February 29, 2012,
also a leap year; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rose Moreno, a life-long Troy resident, is diminutive in
stature and reliant on a walker to get around when she's in a hurry, but
neither of those things has slowed her down; and
WHEREAS, Rose Moreno regularly shops at Colonie Center with her cous-
in, Theresa Prescott of Clifton Park; she stays busy cooking for family
get-togethers and leads a more active life than many people half her
age; and
WHEREAS, According to her son, Ric Moreno, a retired fire fighter with
the Troy Fire Department and an emergency room nurse at Samaritan Hospi-
tal, she prays a lot and she cooks a lot; and
WHEREAS, Rose admits that good food and prayer have played a role in
her longevity, but she also credits a forgiving and grateful spirit; and
WHEREAS, She has fond memories of growing up as Rosina D'Agostino on
Haverman's Avenue; it was a happy, safe place where her father, Enrico,
was famous for his chicken and other recipes; and
WHEREAS, Rose met her late husband, Daniel Moreno, through her best
friend; it was love at first sight for her too; they married, moved into
a house in Troy and raised two sons, Enrico "Ric" and the late Daniel
Moreno; and
WHEREAS, Rose Moreno is also the proud grandmother of four grandsons
and one great-granddaughter; and
WHEREAS, Rose Moreno worked from the time she was in her early twen-
ties at Cluett Peabody and Company and another of Troy's prominent shirt
manufacturers until she retired in 1962; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of her
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved lady has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rose Moreno upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Moreno.
