LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Colleen Somerville of Loudonville, New
York, upon the occasion of capturing a gold medal for freestyle figure
skating at the 2012 Empire State Games

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Colleen Somerville of Loudonville, New York, upon the occasion of
capturing a gold medal for freestyle figure skating at the 2012 Empire
State Games; and
WHEREAS, On February 2-5, 2012, at the Empire State Games held at the
Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, Colleen Somerville, a
senior at Shaker High School, won a gold medal for freestyle figure
skating; her performance qualified her for the State Games of America in
2013; and
WHEREAS, The talent and success displayed by Colleen Somerville of
Loudonville, New York, at the 2012 Empire State Games is due in great
part to the efforts of her coach, Stephanie Hunter, a skilled and inspi-
rational mentor, respected for her ability to develop potential into
excellence; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Colleen Somerville's dedication to
figure skating is a year-round, everyday commitment; she is highly
focused and has developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Colleen Somerville's exemplary performance is reflective of
her dedication, determination and personal commitment; her achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Colleen Somerville of Loudonville, New York, upon the occasion of
capturing a gold medal for freestyle figure skating at the 2012 Empire
State Games, and to commend her for the enduring honor she has brought
to her family, her school and her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Colleen Somerville.
