LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert L. Cimmino, Jr., upon the occa-
sion of his induction into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes and coaches who distinguish themselves through
their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the
highest level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Robert L. Cimmino, Jr., upon the occasion of his induction into the New
York State Basketball Hall of Fame; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated on Sunday, March 18, 2012; and
WHEREAS, One of the most highly respected and successful high school
basketball coaches in the nation, Robert Cimmino is the Head Coach of
the Mount Vernon High School Boys Basketball Team; he attended the
College of New Rochelle where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Social Studies along with a Master of Science degree in Special Educa-
tion; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon High School Boys Basketball coach since
1994, Coach Robert Cimmino was designated as the New York State Coach of
the Year for the seasons 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2007; in 2000, he was also
the DAILY NEWS/Madison Square Garden Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, A former St. Ursula CYO coach for 20 years, Robert Cimmino is
a founding member of the Mount Vernon Summer Olympics and is the recipi-
ent of a Jenkins Award for Community Service; and
WHEREAS, Robert Cimmino's Mount Vernon teams have won the New York
State Public High Schools Athletic Associations Championship for the
years 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011; his proudest career achievement
is that 93 of his 95 seniors graduated from high school and attended
college; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Robert Cimmino was a head coach at the McDonald's
All-American Game in Chicago, Illinois; he served in that capacity
during the 2010 NIKE Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon; and
WHEREAS, A 20-year Director of the Mount Vernon High School Summer
Basketball Camp, Coach Robert Cimmino is a member of the New York State
Coaches Association's Board of Directors as well as with the Westchester
Coaches Association; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Robert Cimmino for
his extraordinary athletic coaching accomplishments which are a tribute
to his skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert L. Cimmino, Jr., upon the occasion of his induction into
the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert L. Cimmino, Jr.
