LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Charles W. Weiss upon the occasion of
his retirement as Mayor of the Village of Flower Hill, New York, after
15 years of distinguished service to the community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Charles W. Weiss upon the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of the
Village of Flower Hill, New York, after 15 years of distinguished
service to the community, on Sunday, April 1, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his service as Mayor, Charles W. Weiss was an
elected Trustee and Deputy Mayor and member of the Village's Zoning
Board of Appeals; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mayor Weiss brought an outdated village
into the 21st century; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his administration, Mayor Charles W. Weiss has had
numerous accomplishments including the modernization of the village code
and the creation of zoning and building controls to halt over-building
on undersized plots; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Charles W. Weiss acquired an overgrown parcel from
Nassau County and turned it into a showplace park with a modern play-
ground and accommodations for off-leash dog walking; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Mayor Weiss renovated the Village Hall and garage
to comply with New York State government standards for building, infor-
mation technology, recordkeeping, accounting and more, funded by St.
Francis Hospital building fees and not taxpayer money; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Charles W. Weiss was also instrumental in the rebuild-
ing and restoration of every road in the Village of Flower Hill; he also
created an ongoing annual program for road repaving; and
WHEREAS, Some of Mayor Charles W. Weiss' other accomplishments include
a Village Emergency Management Plan, revitalizing the village's commer-
cial strip, replacing the village's aging fleet of trucks, and stabiliz-
ing tax rates through alternative sources of income, to name just a few;
and
WHEREAS, Charles W. Weiss will be remembered for his honesty, integri-
ty, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human prob-
lems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Charles W. Weiss and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles W. Weiss upon the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of
the Village of Flower Hill, New York, after 15 years of distinguished
service to the community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles W. Weiss.
