LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 115th Anniversary of The Inter-
national Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 43
WHEREAS, Labor unions, through the integrity and dedication of their
leadership, have assumed an essential and integral role in ensuring the
welfare, safety and economic stability of the workers of this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
115th Anniversary of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Local 43, observed on December 13, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Local 43 was founded on December 13, 1896; and
WHEREAS, It is a primary goal of the IBEW Local 43, to enhance the
quality of life of its members; and
WHEREAS, IBEW Local 43 offers its members specific assistance, general
information, skill development, education, safety programs, pension
investments and other important services; and
WHEREAS, IBEW Local 43 represents nearly 1,200 hard-working men and
women in the New York counties of: Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida,
Onondaga, Oswego, and parts of Cayuga, Chenango, Otsego, Tompkins and
Wayne counties; and
WHEREAS, IBEW Local 43 holds a firm resolve to provide its contractors
with the highest quality of skilled and trained electricians, appren-
tices and technicians in the industry; and
WHEREAS, The Local offers all of its electricians ongoing, continuous
training, prides itself on its ability to keep its Apprentices and Jour-
neyman Wiremen up to date and knowledgeable on the latest technologies
and work processes; and
WHEREAS, The heart of IBEW Local 43's training is its CNY JATC
program, a regimented training program that assures competency in the
standardized skills needed to be an electrician; and
WHEREAS, The success of IBEW Local 43 is due, in large part to its
distinguished officers; these illustrious individuals are: Donald
Morgan, Business Manager/ Financial Secretary; Pat Costello, President
/Assistant BM; Alan Marzullo, Membership Development Coordinator; Pat
Harrington, Membership Development Representative; Karl Hildenbrand,
Vice President; Jack Pryor, Recording Secretary; and Gene Townsend,
Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, In addition to commemorating the 115th Anniversary of IBEW
Local 43, this Legislative Body is proud to honor Jeremiah Comer upon
the occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service
to IBEW Local 43; and
WHEREAS, Known to all as Jerry, Jeremiah Comer has been serving the
hard-working men and women of the IBEW for the last 42 years, serving
the union in many high ranking positions; and
WHEREAS, Since 1997, Jeremiah Comer has served as the IBEW Interna-
tional Representative and before that served in a leadership role to
IBEW Local 43; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Jeremiah Comer has committed himself
to improving the lives of the Central New York community through his
work on behalf of the IBEW and many community boards; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 115th Anniversary of The International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers Local 43; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 43
and Jeremiah Comer.
