LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Peter Aschkenasy upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by BRIC Arts/Media/Brooklyn on
June 5, 2012
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Peter Aschkenasy has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Peter Asch-
kenasy upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
BRIC Arts/Media/Brooklyn, to be observed at its Celebrate Brooklyn!
Opening Night Gala and Concert on Tuesday, June 5, 2012; and
WHEREAS, On this most auspicious occasion, Peter Aschkenasy, Vice
Chair of the BRIC Arts/Media/Brooklyn Board of Directors, will be
honored for his role in advancing major BRIC initiatives and his commit-
ment to public service throughout Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Peter Aschkenasy has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Peter Aschkenasy has been active in the municipal and
cultural life of New York City for over 40 years, having served as Depu-
ty Commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural
Affairs and Executive Director of the Mayor's Commission on Youth and
Physical Fitness; and
WHEREAS, As a restaurateur, Peter Aschkenasy has owned such restau-
rants as Gage and Tollner, Luchows, and the US Steakhouse, as well as
having been a partner and part-owner of The Oyster Bar, the Rainbow
Room, and Gallagher's Steak House; and
WHEREAS, Peter Aschkenasy was a founding member of the Association for
a Better New York and is currently Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Arts Coun-
cil, Treasurer of the Brooklyn Public Library, and a trustee of Fedcap
and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Peter Aschkenasy has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Pamela Brier, who
feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Peter Aschkenasy has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Peter Aschkenasy upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by BRIC Arts/Media/Brooklyn on June 5, 2012; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peter Aschkenasy.
