LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Diana Meringolo upon the occasion of her
induction into the Fontbonne Hall Academy Hall of Fame on May 2, 2012

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Diana Meringo-
lo upon the occasion of her induction into the Fontbonne Hall Academy
Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its 75th Anniversary Fleur de Lys
Dinner Dance on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Gargiulo's Restaurant in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Diana Meringolo
attended Queen of All Saints and St. Joseph's High School; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo received her Bachelor of Arts in History from
Fordham University, her Master of Science in Secondary Education from
Richmond College and her Professional Diploma as a Reading Specialist
and Supervisor of Reading from St. John's University; she also holds
certification in Administration and Supervision through Fordham; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo has had extensive experience on the elementa-
ry school level; she began her teaching career in Our Lady of Perpetual
Help School, where she spent two years teaching grade six; and
WHEREAS, After one year in the business world, Diana Meringolo
returned to her first love, teaching, at Our Lady of Angels School; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo spent 29 years at Our Lady of Angels School
as a teacher of sixth, seventh and eighth grade social studies, math and
science; and
WHEREAS, While at Our Lady of Angels School, Diana Meringolo created
remedial programs in reading, mathematics and writing skills for grades
3 to 8, based on NYS Competency Exams; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo also delivered a one hour presentation enti-
tled "Learning Strategies in Group Problem Solving" and appeared in a
video on math skills for P.F. Collier Educational Services; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, this remarkable educator created and delivered a
one hour presentation on diocesan television for teachers entitled
"Cooperative Learning: A Balanced Approach" and participated in a dioce-
san video as a math teacher for presentations to business leaders to
promote Catholic Schools Week; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Diana Meringolo was named Principal of Resurrection
School, where she served for four years; and
WHEREAS, At Resurrection, Diana Meringolo wrote and received a tech-
nology grant, allowing the school to access the internet and simultane-
ously achieved a Middle States goal two years ahead of schedule; and
WHEREAS, As principal of Resurrection School, Diana Meringolo rein-
stated a language program and music program that included a highly
successful band; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Diana Meringolo was asked to serve as the Assistant
Superintendent for Instruction/Advisory Governance Structures in the
Diocesan Education Office, where she remained for two years; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Diana Meringolo was named Principal of Our Lady of
Guadalupe School, a position she holds today; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, At Our Lady of Guadalupe, Diana Meringolo is a member of the
Pastor Advisory Board and an Extraordinary Minister of Communion; and
WHEREAS, Diana Meringolo has received the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Award for Excellence in Teaching, Educator of the Year (twice) by the
Association of Teachers of New York and was nominated for Who's Who in
American Teachers four times by her students; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Diana Meringolo was recognized with Principal of
the Year by Our News, a local community newspaper; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community, Diana Meringo-
lo is a member of NCEA, ASCD, CSSANYS, Kappa Gamma Pi and Kappa Delta
Pi; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Diana Meringolo has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Diana Meringolo has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Diana Meringolo upon the occasion of her induction into the Font-
bonne Hall Academy Hall of Fame on May 2, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Diana Meringolo.
