LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sesame Flyers International, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its 3rd Annual Scholarship & Awards Spring Gala

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Sesame Flyers International, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 3rd
Annual Scholarship & Awards Spring Gala on Friday, May 4, 2012, at the
Brooklyn Children's Museum; and
WHEREAS, Recipients of the Community Pillar Award include: Frederick
Morton, Founder of TEMPO Networks, LLC; Davis "Junior" Gayle, Owner of
Tropical Paradise Caterers and Restaurant; Dr. John E. Harvey, President
of DAH Consulting, Inc.; and Ricardo "Back 2 Basics" Gomez, B2B Enter-
tainment; and
WHEREAS, In addition, other distinguished honorees and awards include:
Ann-Rhea Smith, Publicist of the Brooklyn Children's Museum, Bridge
Builder Award; Kesha Shortt, Director of Get R.I.C.H. Youth Program,
Employee of the Year; Marsha Escayg, co-founder of Foreign Accent, Inc.
and Owner of Desire New York City, Parent of the Year; Janet Cummings,
Vice Chairperson of Sesame Flyers International, Foundation Award;
Luzett Logan, Social Worker for the Center for Family Support, Volunteer
of the Year Award; and Dr. Una Clarke, President of Una Clark Associ-
ates, Visionary Award; and
WHEREAS, Sesame Flyers International, Inc. is a community based not-
for-profit 501(c) 3 corporation founded in 1983; this 29 year-old organ-
ization functions as a multiservice agency which provides a number of
services to both youths and adults; and
WHEREAS, Sesame Flyers International, Inc. consists of both volunteers
and professional staff, dedicated to empowering the lives of young
people and the community; its mission is to provide a range of youth
development, cultural, social welfare and supportive services to indi-
viduals and families residing in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sesame Flyers International, Inc. also takes pride in its
origins and cultural Caribbean heritage and has enriched its name from
also being known for its participation in the West Indian American Day
Carnival festivities such as Kiddie's Carnival, Panorama and Labor Day,
which is the adult parade of the band; and
WHEREAS, Sesame Flyers International, Inc. understands that part of
loving children means presenting them with opportunities to acquire the
knowledge, skills, technology and equipment that will prepare them for
the challenges yet to come; its goal of youth empowerment is achieved
and maintained through carefully structured programs designed to address
the needs of its children, their families and the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sesame Flyers International, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its 3rd Annual Scholarship & Awards Spring Gala; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sesame Flyers International, Inc., and to the aforementioned
honorees.
