LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sherrylyn Waldron as she is honored by
the Imani Singers of Medgar Evers College at its Annual Night of Honor
on May 4, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals who
distinguish themselves in their profession and in service to their faith
and community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Sherrylyn Waldron as she is honored by the Imani Singers of Medgar Evers
College, the college's renowned resident choir, at its Annual Night of
Honor to be held at the college on Friday, May 4, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Each year at this Black Tie event, the Imani Singers of
Medgar Evers College honors and pays tribute to outstanding sacred music
church musicians in the Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, Sherrylyn Waldron, Minister of Music at Bedford Central Pres-
byterian Church, truly merits this high honor; and
WHEREAS, Sherrylyn Waldron, a native of Brooklyn, New York was born
into a musical family; her musical enthusiasm was stimulated at a young
age at the persistence of her parents; she, though, had a yearning to
help others and pursued a nursing career, earning Bachelor's of Science
and Master of Science degrees in Nursing from SUNY Downstate Medical
Center; and
WHEREAS, She has worked as a Registered Nurse in area hospitals for
more than 30 years as a Staff Nurse and Nurse Educator for the maternal
and child nursing areas; she is currently employed as the School Nurse
at Baldwin Senior High School on Long Island and in Labor and Delivery
at South Nassau Communities Hospital, also on Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her nursing career, she continued to increase her
musical skill and abilities and, in 2006, she earned her Bachelor of
Arts degree in Music from the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY's
Queens College; and
WHEREAS, Sherrylyn Waldron has been a member of Bedford Central Pres-
byterian Church for over 25 years; during this time she has used her
musical abilities to provide vacation coverage for the Minister of Music
and to direct the church's first gospel choir, Gratitude, leading them
in their production of "Dreamer - What Really Happened to Joseph"; and
WHEREAS, She has served as the Minister of Music at Bedford Central
Presbyterian Church since 1994; she has given private instruction in
piano to all age groups; has accompanied many soloists; directed, formed
and arranged music for several choirs; coordinated and co-produced the
Adult Choir's first CD entitled "Listen and Believe" in August 2004; and
formed Created to Praise, a singing group comprised of eight voices; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she coordinated the Instrumental Music Program,
a program which accepts participants age nine and over, and provides
instruction in piano, wind/brass instruments and strings; the lessons
are taught by professionally trained instructors and are offered as a
free service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Sherrylyn Waldron strives for excellence in everything she
does; as the ministry leader for the Health Ministry, she implemented
the Nurse-on-Call program which is in place today; in her free time, she
loves to crochet, decorate cakes and create PowerPoint presentations;
and
WHEREAS, She has been married to The Reverend Dr. Lancelot Waldron for
28 years and is the proud mother of three children, Lance, Arianna and
Luke, all of whom are proud to be part of her life and rejoice in her
many accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Sherrylyn Waldron has certainly distinguished herself in
service to her faith and community and is worthy of the recognition and
appreciation of this Legislative Body and the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sherrylyn Waldron as she is honored by the Imani Singers of
Medgar Evers College at its Annual Night of Honor on Friday, May 4,
2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sherrylyn Waldron.
