LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Rome Feder-
al Credit Union
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by
the faithful efforts of those financial institutions and their leader-
ship who devote their purpose to promoting economic vitality and service
the public need; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 75th Anniversary of Rome Federal Credit Union, to be observed
at an event at the Credit Union on Wednesday, May 23, 2012; and
WHEREAS, In November of 1936, eight individuals, known as subscribers,
applied for permission to the Governor of the Farm Credit Administration
to organize and operate a Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Those pioneering individuals were: Patsy Procopio, Claude
White, Carl Jackson, Charles Proper, Exit Golden, George Lovett, Vito
Vitorelo and Elmer Hall; and
WHEREAS, In 1937, the City of Rome firemen began Rome Municipal Credit
Union for the City of Rome employees; the office opened at the Rome Fire
Station which was then on Washington Street; and
WHEREAS, The first organizational meeting of the Revere Rome Division
Federal Credit Union was held on December 16, 1936; the Credit Union was
located near the entrance to Revere; and
WHEREAS, The 11 member Board of Directors were: George Lascelles-Pre-
sident, Erwin Fellows-Treasurer, Lawrence Phillips-Vice President,
Edward Esch-Clerk, George Williams, Winfield Dodge, John Bogan, Charles
Schwigler, Patsy Procopio, Vito Vitorelo and Harold Reams; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, the Rome Municipal Employees Credit Union moved to
the Laurel Street Fire Station; and
WHEREAS, The Revere Rome Division Employees FCU erected a new building
in 1980, at its present location on Seneca Street; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, the Rome Municipal Employees FCU opened an office in
the cellar of Rome City Hall; and
WHEREAS, Four years later, the Rome Municipal Employees FCU merged
with the Revere Rome Division Employees FCU and the name was changed to
the Rome Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Today this Credit Union serves almost 1800 members from
Revere, the city of Rome, Rome Hospital, M & L Trucking, KrisTech Wire
and several small Rome businesses; and
WHEREAS, As the City of Rome's oldest Credit Union, it has strived,
throughout its history, to maintain its motto, Above and Beyond; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body looks favorably upon the strong role
which institutions such as Rome Credit Union play in strengthening the
social and economic fabric of our communities through providing growth
opportunities for citizens and businesses; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Rome Federal Credit Union, and to
wish this financial institution continued success in its vital work on
behalf of its customers; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rome Federal Credit Union.
