LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Hudson Guild on its POWER-UP program
which continues to provide outstanding community service by improving
the lives of the participants in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York
City

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Hudson Guild
on its POWER-UP program which continues to provide outstanding community
service by improving the lives of the participants in the Chelsea neigh-
borhood of New York City; and
WHEREAS, Hudson Guild is a multi-service community center servicing
more than 14,000 individuals who live, work, or go to school in Chelsea,
with a focus on those in need; and
WHEREAS, Hudson Guild's mission is to create and sustain a strong,
effective community that acknowledges and responds to the achievements
of its diverse members through the five main service areas of Adult
Services; Arts; Children and Youth Services; Mental Health Services; and
Community-Building; and
WHEREAS, Hudson Guild's Children and Youth Programs serve youth and
their families by providing social and emotional support, academic
assistance, awareness of post-secondary school options and employment
experience; and
WHEREAS, Hudson Guild's POWER-UP program assists youth in achieving
academic, professional, and personal success by providing a safe,
supportive, and nurturing environment through a variety of teen program-
ming; and
WHEREAS, The POWER-UP program emphasizes the importance of academic
achievement, self-awareness, social responsibility, and setting goals
for the future aspirations of its participants; and
WHEREAS, Hudson Guild honors the achievement of its youth workers and
graduates with a recognition ceremony honoring those who have collec-
tively completed over 3,000 internship hours; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Hudson Guild on its POWER-UP program which continues to provide
outstanding community service by improving the lives of the participants
in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hudson Guild.
