LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael E. Patterson upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Founder's Award by The Child
School/Legacy High School on Thursday, May 24, 2012

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael E.
Patterson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Founder's Award by The Child School/Legacy High School on Thursday, May
24, 2012, at Remi Restaurant in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Michael Patterson worked for JPMorgan from 1987-2009, serving
as general counsel, chief administrative officer, a member of the board
and vice chairman; prior to his employment with JPMorgan, he practiced
law in New York and Paris as a partner of Debevoise & Plimpton; and
WHEREAS, Michael Patterson is a member of the board of The Trust for
Public Land (land conservation), The Hastings Center (bioethics), USA
Cycling and the USA Cycling Development Foundation; he has served for
many years as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Child School,
which his daughter, Anne, attended in the 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Michael Patterson completed his undergraduate work at Harvard
and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School, after which
he clerked for The Honorable Carl McGowan on the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the District of Columbia Circuit, and then for the Honorable Potter
Stewart on the U.S. Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Elena, and their
three children, as well as their six grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael E. Patterson upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Founder's Award by The Child School/Legacy High School
on Thursday, May 24, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael E. Patterson.
