LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Isaiah's
Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York,
to be celebrated on June 10, 2012

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
20th Anniversary of Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist
Church, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, to be celebrated on Sunday, June
10, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, Inc.
was founded 20 years ago by Archbishop Dr. Voni B. Johyn; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the congregation has grown from nine
founding members to over three hundred members on record and counting;
and
WHEREAS, A faith based organization, Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spir-
itual Baptist Church has formed alliances with other neighboring organ-
izations within the East New York and Brownsville communities and has
extended its services to provide a Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry service;
and
WHEREAS, Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church was also
instrumental in offering assistance to its Caribbean brothers and
sisters in obtaining permanent residency in the United States through
church sponsorship; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Isaiah's Temple launched its first outdoor community
event "Powerfest" reaching out to ministries from all denominations, and
residents of the community; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah's Temple was also successful in launching Isaiah's
Crystal Light House, another well needed community service, focusing its
attention on assisting troubled youths and their infants as they transi-
tion from foster care to independent living; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church's youth
ministry was developed to allow Isaiah's Temple adolescents the opportu-
nity to express their spiritual and social growth through dance and
music; and
WHEREAS, In 2000 Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope established its Bible
Institute, in which, members of the congregation and others graduated
with diplomas; and
WHEREAS, This illustrious congregation has hosted two ordinations,
consecrating members of its organization and others to various offices
such as Bishops, Reverends, Evangelists, Archdeacons, Deacons and Deaco-
nesses; and
WHEREAS, Presently, its Sunday worship service can be seen on Queens
Public Television and Brooklyn Community Access Television (BCAT); and
WHEREAS, Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, Inc.
stands on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of
the coming decades while retaining that spiritual resolve which charac-
terizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritu-

al Baptist Church, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, to be celebrated on June
10, 2012, fully confident that this commemoration reflects the belief in
those values which enhance the dignity and purpose of life; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Isaiah's Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, Inc.,
Brooklyn, New York.
