LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Highlanders upon the occasion of
its 40th Anniversary Luncheon on June 5, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Highlanders upon the occasion of its 40 Anniversary Luncheon to be
held at The Chalet on the Hudson, Cold Spring, New York, on Tuesday,
June 5, 2012; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Highlanders are pleased to commend The Anni-
versary Committee, Incredible Caterers, Walt Weissman, Mary Jane Pitt
and the Historical Society for their hard work and loyal assistance to
this vital organization; and
WHEREAS, On April 18, 1972, a meeting conducted by the Town of High-
lands Supervisor, Mr. Arthur Yagel, and attended by Reverend Thomas
Melican, Reverend William Hunter and Mr. Joseph Aylward determined there
was a need for a senior citizens organization in the Town of Highlands,
New York; and
WHEREAS, On July 27, 1972, the Highlanders was officially organized; a
contest won by Mrs. Alyce Deakins decided the name "the Highlanders";
and
WHEREAS, The Highlanders are greatly dedicated to their community;
within the last decade, the Highlanders established a scholarship fund
to benefit students from Highland Falls/Fort Montgomery who display good
citizenship and perform community service; and
WHEREAS, Many of its members participate in the nutrition program at
the Town of Highlands Ambulance Building and the Meals on Wheels
program; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Highlanders upon the occasion of its 40th Anniversary Lunch-
eon on June 5, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Highlanders.
