LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Father Raymond Nobiletti, M.M.
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition as the
recipient of the 2012 Pro-Patria Award by the Long Island Assembly, No.
703, Knights of Columbus of Brooklyn

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Father Raymond Nobiletti, M.M. upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition as the recipient of the 2012 Pro-Patria Award by
the Long Island Assembly, No. 703, Knights of Columbus of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the organiza-
tion's 107th Independence Day Parade, to be held on Saturday, June 30,
2012, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus supports four ideals: Charity, Unity,
Fraternity and Patriotism, and is an outstanding charitable fraternal
organization in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, New York, Father Raymond Nobi-
letti was a Columbian Squire and Chief Squire of Archbishop John Hughes
Council 1959-1960 and became a Knight of Columbus at St. Therese Council
in Valley Stream, Long Island; he attended Catholic elementary and high
schools in New York City and graduated from Maryknoll Seminaries in
Illinois, Massachusetts and New York; and
WHEREAS, Father Nobiletti was ordained a priest on May 24, 1969, and
assigned to the Maryknoll Mission Region of Hong Kong where he studied
the Chinese language and Asian Religions at the Chinese University of
Hong Kong; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Father Nobiletti became Assistant Pastor at St.
John's Parish in Kwun Tong and in 1972 was appointed Pastor of Immacu-
late Heart of Mary Parish in Sau Mau Ping; in 1978, he was appointed
founding Pastor of St. Stephen's Parish in Kwai Chung, New Territories
Hong Kong where he supervised the construction of the church, school,
youth center and rectory; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, Father Nobiletti was elected Regional Superior of
the Maryknoll Hong Kong Region, and in 1984, he became Assistant Superi-
or General and Member of the General Council of the Maryknoll Society
and served in that capacity until 1990; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Father Nobiletti became Pastor of Transfiguration
Parish in Chinatown, New York City where he now serves the multicultural
population of lower Manhattan; on October 13, 2002, he received the
honors of membership in the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus,
Long Island Assembly No. 703; and
WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, Father Nobiletti was called to minis-
ter to the injured and dying at the World Trade Center site; he was a
first responder and was caught in the collapse of the South Tower; and
WHEREAS, Emerging from the rubble with three other survivors, Father
Nobiletti continued to care for the injured until the collapse of the
North Tower; he and his parishioners were part of the frozen zone in
south Manhattan for many months after the attack; and
WHEREAS, Father Nobiletti is grateful to the people of Brooklyn for
inspiring him in his youth along with Maryknoll for training him in
multicultural missions as well as the people of New York City for being
his family today; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Father Raymond Nobiletti has
displayed throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Father Raymond Nobiletti, M.M. upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition as the recipient of the 2012 Pro-
Patria Award by the Long Island Assembly, No. 703, Knights of Columbus
of Brooklyn; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Raymond Nobiletti, M.M.
