LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Humphreys
Farm in New Hartford, New York

WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon which
our distinct American heritage is built; New York State and the entire
United States are dependent on our agricultural industry for a variety
of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
milestones of those families which substantially contribute to the
economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Humphreys Farm in New Hartford, New York,
to be celebrated on Saturday, June 30, 2012; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, Humphreys Family has operated a farm on
Tibbitts Road in New Hartford; originally called Brynkir Farm, Humphreys
Farm has expanded over the years to keep up with current farming trends
and to remain viable; and
WHEREAS, The original farmstead was founded by Hugh Humphreys and his
wife, Jane Humphreys on 130 acres of land; they subsequently passed it
along to their sons, George B. and John B. Humphreys; and
WHEREAS, John B. Humphreys and George B. Humphreys were awarded the
Farmer of the Year Award by the Cornell Cooperative Extension; and
WHEREAS, When Humphreys Farm was first established, it operated as a
dairy and potato farm, but over the years, it has primarily operated as
a crop farm with its major crop being green beans; and
WHEREAS, Humphreys Farm is unique to other farms in that they haul
their farm grown crops to market themselves; and
WHEREAS, Today, the 2,500-acre Humphreys Farm runs under the direction
of John Humphreys and George Brymer Humphreys, along with his son-in-law
A. Michael Brockett; and
WHEREAS, The Humphreys Farm continues to change and expand with the
times, and is poised for success for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional family and its contributions to
the local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Humphreys Farm in New Hartford, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Humphreys Farm, New Hartford, New York.
