LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David Peters, LMSW, for receiving the
Community Advocate Award from the Willa Davis Women's Club

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David Peters, LMSW, for receiving the Community Advocate Award from the
Willa Davis Women's Club at its 103rd Celebration Luncheon on Saturday,
May 19, 2012; and
WHEREAS, David Peters, LMSW, is a social worker in private practice
who is committed to improving the lives of children and families; he
serves as the Project co-Coordinator for Communities for All Ages, a
United Way of Westchester-Putnam and Helen Benedict Andrus Foundation-
funded initiative that works to make New Rochelle a better place for
growing up and growing older; and
WHEREAS, For the past 20 years David Peters worked as a child welfare
advocate, trainer and administrator for the Center for Development of
Human Services, Research Foundation of SUNY at Buffalo; in that capaci-
ty, he was engaged in transformative initiatives to address and improve
critical thinking, safety and risk assessment for all child welfare
staff statewide; and
WHEREAS, Upon retirement from SUNY, David Peters provided the leader-
ship to establish the Institute for Professional Development and Human
Services, Hunter College School of Social Work, CUNY; there he focused
on improving the transfer of learning around safety and risk assessment
for child welfare staff throughout New York City; and
WHEREAS, Returning to his roots as a community advocate in 2010, David
Peters has begun to engage in more direct practice; as such, he has
founded and serves as the Chairman of the Community Enrichment Zone, a
collaboration of community-based and faith-based organizations within
the Lincoln Avenue Corridor of New Rochelle that have committed to stra-
tegic planning and action to enrich the lives of its stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, A New Rochelle resident, David Peters is involved in a varie-
ty of community groups, including the New Rochelle Council of Community
Services, Courts Catalyzing Change, Undoing Racism, the Anti-Racism
Alliance, Passport to Manhood and the WestCOP New Rochelle Community
Action Program; he also is a 2011 graduate of the New Rochelle Police
Department's Citizen Academy; and
WHEREAS, David Peters serves as Deacon-elect of the Bethesda Baptist
Church of New Rochelle where he serves as a member of the Board of
Mission, Men's Ministry, Small Group Ministry, Men's Choir, and the
Discipleship Ministry; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his three children and three
grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the life in their community and have shown a long and sustained
commitment to excellence certainly have earned recognition and applause;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David Peters, LMSW, for receiving the Community Advocate Award
from the Willa Davis Women's Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Peters.
