LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring St. Joseph's Church upon the occasion of
celebrating its 150th Anniversary

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
religious institutions; and
WHEREAS, St. Joseph's Church of Schenectady will celebrate its 150th
Anniversary during a mass and parish banquet to be held on June 24,
2012; and
WHEREAS, St. Joseph's was dedicated on June 27, 1862; and
WHEREAS, The parish met in an old frame building donated by Joseph
Harrecker, the building was formerly used by the First Baptist Church;
and
WHEREAS, Within its first five years, the congregation tripled in
size, and a new, larger church building was needed; construction of the
new church, on the corner of State and Lafayette Streets, began in 1877;
and
WHEREAS, Today, under the guidance of Reverend Michael Hogan, St.
Joseph's Church continues to provide its parishioners with a place for
sincere worship and fellowship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate St. Joseph's Church upon the occasion of its 150th Anniver-
sary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Michael Hogan, St. Joseph's Church.
