LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Denise J. Hallett upon the occasion of
her designation as the recipient of a 2012 Educational Advancement Foun-
dation Salute To Excellence in Community Education Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals who
distinguish themselves in their profession and in service to their
community and its children merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Denise J. Hallett, of the New York City Department of Education, upon
the occasion of her designation as the recipient of a 2012 Educational
Advancement Foundation Salute To Excellence in Community Education
Award; and
WHEREAS, Denise J. Hallett will be honored at the North Atlantic
Region of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's Cluster III Educational
Advancement Foundation's Breakfast, to be held at the Double Tree by
Hilton in Tarrytown, New York on Saturday, June 23, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) is dedicated to
the pursuit of lifelong learning and each year proudly recognizes indi-
viduals who have made a difference in non-traditional educational ways
to create an environment in which children can grow; and
WHEREAS, Denise J. Hallett truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, Denise Hallett's career as an educator commenced more than 28
years ago; she has served ably as a Drug and Substance Abuse Counselor,
a teacher, an Assistant Principal, a member of the cabinet of the Super-
intendent of Brooklyn High Schools, and Director of Field Services
(Human Resources) for the New York City Department of Education; her
expertise in school leadership and her compassion for children and the
educators who support them have enabled her to successfully lead Far
Rockaway High School as its Principal for seven years; and
WHEREAS, As Principal of Far Rockaway High School, in District 27,
Queens, Denise Hallett continued her commitment to teens and young
adults; her ability to lead supervisors, foster professional growth, and
engage parents and the community, was and continues to be reflected in
the contribution of active and empowered Assistant Principals and Prin-
cipals who currently work in the New York City public schools and other
school systems; she has, in addition, helped foster partnerships which
contributed to the educational resurgence of Far Rockaway High School;
and
WHEREAS, Currently as the Deputy Network Leader of the New York City
Public Schools' Transition Support Network, Denise Hallett supports the
22 phase out schools which were announced for closure in June 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Transition Support Network is a groundbreaking concept in
the history of the New York City Public Schools; Denise Hallett was
selected to lead the work of the Network, ensuring that "no child is
truly left behind" as poor performing schools are closed to make way for
newer school choices; and
WHEREAS, As the Deputy Network Leader, Denise Hallett continues to
create an environment which offers growth opportunities for students and
their families; she is committed to fostering professional growth on the
part of all staff, as well as to engaging parents and community leaders
in all components of the educational program; and
WHEREAS, Denise Hallett's educational background includes a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Health Education/Counseling from Hunter College, a
Master of Science degree in Education, Guidance and Counseling from Long
Island University, and an Advanced Certificate in Supervision and Admin-
istration from City College; and
WHEREAS, Outside of school, Denise Hallett leads an active life, she
is centered by her religious beliefs and her family; she is a daughter,
sister, mother of a 33 year old daughter and a friend; she enjoys trav-
eling, long walks, the arts, specifically music, enjoying and studying
the culture of film, especially "film noir"; and
WHEREAS, She also enjoys learning and growing in the ministry of
spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ; she is a member of the Brooklyn
Tabernacle, Brooklyn, New York, and has dedicated herself to supporting
others in various forms of educating children, ensuring that every child
receives an equal opportunity to develop into a productive contributing
member of society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the
edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Denise J. Hallett upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of a 2012 Educational Advancement Foundation Salute To Excel-
lence in Community Education Award on June 23, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denise J. Hallett.
