LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring First Lady Sonya Shaw upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those individuals within the State of New York who give of their time
and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to benefit the
community at large; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor First Lady
Sonya Shaw upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition,
to be celebrated on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Bethel Baptist
Church Appreciation Luncheon in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born on Long Island, New York, Sonya Shaw gave her life to
Jesus Christ at the age of nine; she later earned her bachelor's degree
from Stony Brook University and her master's degree from Hunter College;
and
WHEREAS, Sonya Shaw taught grade school in Brooklyn and served as a
guidance counselor in the Uniondale School District; she currently works
as a counselor in the Troy School District; and
WHEREAS, Sonya Shaw is a mother and is the wife of The Reverend Eric
Shaw; having a passion for youth and singing, she is serving her eighth
year as First Lady of Bethel Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Sonya Shaw has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman of God has always given enlight-
enment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to her care and has
administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal
needs of all; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sonya Shaw has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor First Lady Sonya Shaw upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to First Lady Sonya Shaw.
