LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joy Avidan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Westchester Region of Hadas-
sah

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joy
Avidan upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the Westchester Region of Hadassah; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated at the organization's Annual Gala, The 2011 Carnivale and
Casino Night, to be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Ritz-Carl-
ton in White Plains, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Westchester Region of Hadassah is hosting its Annual Gala
as part of its noteworthy efforts to support the life-saving work of the
Hadassah Medical Organization; and
WHEREAS, Placing great emphasis on clinical and scientific research
with the aim of advancing and improving medical care in Israel and
throughout the world, The Hadassah Medical Organization is one of the
world's leading institutions in healthcare, research and education; and
WHEREAS, The honorees of the Westchester Region of Hadassah are highly
respected for the work they do professionally and for their extensive
community involvement; and
WHEREAS, Born in Eastchester, Joy Avidan has lived in Purchase, New
York, for 30 years and has been involved in many different philanthropic
organizations; and
WHEREAS, Much of the community service work of Joy Avidan has focused
on children; her greatest joy in UJA Federation work has been organizing
the Gift of Chanukah program which collects and distributes holiday
gifts for children, teens and seniors in need throughout Westchester and
the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, Joy Avidan has volunteered at Blythdale Children's Hospital
and the Sarah Neuman Nursing Home; on the boards of a number of communi-
ty service organizations, she is currently the social action chair at
her synagogue, Jewish Community Center of Harrison; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joy Avidan has been very active in the National
Lipid Disease Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Married to Avi for 35 years, Joy and Avi Avidan are the proud
parents of three children and have one beautiful grandchild; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Joy Avidan has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the respect
and admiration of her colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joy Avidan has displayed throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joy Avidan upon the occasion of her designation for special recog-
nition by the Westchester Region of Hadassah; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joy Avidan.
