LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Quinnipiac University student Bridget
Assip for her efforts in delivering medical care to residents of Nicara-
gua

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their global communities and who serve as
role models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Bridget Assip has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Quinnipiac University student Bridget Assip for her efforts in deliver-
ing medical care to residents of Nicaragua; and
WHEREAS, Bridget Assip of Bellerose, New York, is among an interdisci-
plinary team of Quinnipiac University health sciences students who
visited Nicaragua in 2011; their mission was to deliver medical care and
host educational presentations for local people in and near the city of
Leon; and
WHEREAS, Bridget Assip, along with a group of physical and occupa-
tional therapy students, served in an orphanage for children with
special needs where they evaluated children and devised treatment plans;
they also saw patients in a rural clinic and at their homes to evaluate
them and their environments, and made suggestions to enhance both func-
tion and overall health; and
WHEREAS, Bridget Assip participated in two days of educational presen-
tations at a hospital in Leon, where the group gave lectures and work-
shops for local medical personnel, including doctors, nurses and reha-
bilitation specialists; and
WHEREAS, Bridget Assip helped to provide quality care to the people of
Nicaragua who are not able to access therapy services otherwise, along
with providing the Nicaraguan professionals with important rehabili-
tation knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Bridget Assip has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to helping
others, Bridget Assip represents the best development of the potential
which is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Quinnipiac University student Bridget Assip for her efforts in
delivering medical care to residents of Nicaragua; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bridget Assip, Bellerose, New York.
