LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing March of 2011, as Women's History
Month

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in participating in
months of recognition; and
WHEREAS, March 2011 has been declared Women's History Month; the theme
for the year is "Our History is Our Strength"; and
WHEREAS, Our nation has been greatly strengthened through the valuable
contributions of women of every race, ethnic background, and class; and
WHEREAS, Women play important economic, social, and cultural roles in
America through their contributions to the workforce both inside and
outside of the home; and
WHEREAS, They also were instrumental in the establishment of early
charitable, philanthropic, and cultural institutions in America; and
WHEREAS, Throughout history, women have been leaders in several major
movements, including abolition, emancipation, industrial labor, and
civil rights; and
WHEREAS, Schenectady Business and Professional Women (BPW) will cele-
brate Women's History Month with several events throughout the month of
March, culminating with a panel discussion on March 22nd; and
WHEREAS, Schenectady BPW has a long and distinguished history of work-
ing on behalf of employed women; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is pleased to join this outstanding
organization in celebrating Women's History Month; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize March of 2011, as Women's History Month; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to BPW President Jane Osterhout and Women's History Month Cele-
bration Chair Michele Paludi.
