LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Susan Harder upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2010 Environmentalist of the Year Award
by the Sierra Club Long Island Group

WHEREAS, In the course of the evolving development of the Empire State,
there have emerged certain individuals who, because of their shared
concerns and responsive endeavors, warrant special recognition; and
WHEREAS, These certain individuals, through their devotion and
achievement, have been instrumental in the attainment of the goals of
excellence in the fields in which they serve; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Susan Harder upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2010 Environmentalist of the Year Award by the Sierra Club Long Island
Group, to be celebrated at a luncheon on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at
the Seatuck's Scully Estate, Islip, New York; and
WHEREAS, As President of the Dark Sky's New York Chapter, Susan Harder
has been responsible for many important progressive, innovative, envi-
ronmental contributions to the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Susan Harder has focused her efforts on
educating Long Island municipalities and the Long Island Power Authority
to implement policies and enact regulations to control light pollution;
and
WHEREAS, Through Susan Harder's extensive labors, many Long Island
communities including Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, and
East Hampton, have now enacted dark sky lighting codes; and
WHEREAS, This indomitable woman, eager in her efforts and driven in
her initiative, has distinguished herself in her career and her communi-
ty involvement; the citizens of this great Empire State have profited
greatly from her dedication and service; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
field, certainly have earned recognition and applause; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Susan Harder upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2010 Environmentalist of the Year Award by the Sierra Club Long
Island Group, fully confident that this generous and devoted individual
has unselfishly contributed to the preservation and enhancement of human
dignity; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Harder.
